Designing a User-Friendly Church Website

“If they can’t find it, they won’t stay.”

A beautiful website is great. But a user-friendly website? That’s what keeps people coming back—and helps them connect with your ministry.

In this post, we’ll break down how to create a simple, easy-to-use website that helps new visitors feel welcomed and longtime members stay connected.

What Makes a Website User-Friendly?

It’s not about fancy graphics. It’s about clear paths and easy clicks.

A good website helps people do these things—fast:

  • Find your service times and location
  • Watch sermons or livestream
  • Give online
  • Contact you
  • Learn what your church believes

Start with Clear Navigation

Keep your top menu simple. Include:

  • Home
  • About
  • Sermons
  • Events
  • Give
  • Contact

No more than 6 menu items. If you have more info, use dropdown menus under the main ones.

Make it Mobile-First

Over half your visitors will be on their phones. So:
✅ Use large fonts
✅ Big buttons
✅ Easy-to-scroll layout
✅ Test every page on your phone

Use Consistent Formatting

Don’t confuse visitors with different layouts on every page.
Keep:

  • Fonts and colors consistent
  • Images sized the same
  • Buttons in the same spot

Consistency = Trust.

Write with Simplicity

Use plain language. Write like you’re speaking to someone brand new:

  • “Plan Your Visit” instead of “Ministry Introduction”
  • “Watch Latest Sermon” instead of “Multimedia Archive”

People don’t scan—they scroll. So break up text with:

  • Short paragraphs
  • Bullet points
  • Headings

Always Include a Call to Action

Every page should have one simple CTA:
👉 Visit This Sunday
👉 Watch a Sermon
👉 Give Online
👉 Contact Us

Make it clear what step you want them to take next.

Final Tip: Watch Someone Use It

Ask someone in your church—especially a non-tech member—to click around.
See where they get stuck.
Then make changes to help them flow through your site with ease.
